"Jane's (Varner)fondest memories were in 1932 when her team won the District Championshiip. They defeated Belle Plaine and then New Prague. 'It was really great to win the trophy for your school. School spirit was so great back then. It was a big confidence builder. We thought we were so important.

"An article in the Jordan Independent, March 24, 1932 read, 'The championship cup is now in possession of Jordan High School. This is the second time the cup has been in The Hub, as the school won the honors in 1929.' Jane Varner Breimhorst and Marion Morley were selected for the All-District First Team. Evie Killian and Amy Casey were named to the All-District Second Team.

"The Jordan Independent, March 17, 1932, Silver Loving Cup Brought Back to Hub for First Time Since 1929. All-District Team Announced. Jordan took first honors at the girls basketball tournament held in New Prague last Thursday and Friday evenings. They defeated Belle Plaine, 26-12 and Montgomery, 23 to 16. Following the tournament, W.F. Kritta, present of the New Prague Commercial Club, presented Marion Morley, captain of the Jordan team, the silver loving cup, emblematic of the title of champions, held by the Jordan girls.

"The Jordan Independent, November 26, 1998. In the (1932) district championship game between Jordan and Montgomery, the report said, 'Fans were there with automobile horns, razzers, and Pete Schmitt of The Hub assumed the cheerleader's role with ultimate success. The stands were eager and anxious to lend vocal support to the teams and every time a basket was made on either side, enthusiastic applause rang forth for several minutes.'"

Players on the championship team were presented with a gold basketball on a chain. Jane Varner Breimhost wore her prized basketball on special occasions throughout her life. Jane is the player on the left end of the front row.
