District 7 - Silver Cup - Part 3

Traveling trophy at New Prague

Years Represented: 1928-1933

See New Prague, pp. 228. Excerpts from book:

Ida Picha Welter said, "When we played for the championship of our district, we played against Belle Plaine. It was still a two-court game with forwards and guards staying on their half of the court. I was a forward and I had the ball very near the center line. The court was sidee by bleachers. It happened that Belle Plaine fans were to my right. One of the Belle Plaine fans yelled at me to shoot; what was I waiting for?! I shot and made the basket which won the game for us. The Belle Plaine fans let out a few cuss words but out team was happy."

New Prague won the District 7 championship in 1928, 1931 and 1933. After winning the championship three times, the trophy remained in New Prague.

Thanks to the associate director of athletics at New Prague for her assistance in obtaining photos of the silver cup. The trophy remains in the trophy case at New Prague High School.
