Montrose High School
Eight miles southwest of Buffalo on #12
Years Represented: 1931 - 1932
Information was provided by Clara (Birdie) Mohring Hickman about her playing days on the Montrose girls basketball team. Birdie attended the book signing in Buffalo where she shared a photo of her team in 1931-1932 (see below).
Birdie identified the following players in the photo. Front: Coach Lorin Olson. Middle: Garnet McClay, Marie Denoon, Clara (Birdie) Mohring, Mildred Prestidge. Back: Harriet Lenz, Helen Galvin, Arlyn Walker, Delores Walker, Fern Lenz.
Birdie reported that most of their games were double headers. The girls' game was held first, followed by the boys' game. Teams played included Waverly, Howard Lake, Cokato, Rockford, plus others.
Birdie, like many first era players, watches the MSHSL State Girls Basketball Tournament and enjoys the competition between the 'second era' teams.
Montrose High School was closed in 1942 and students went to Buffalo High School. The consolidated school district is now the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools.
