Medford High School

south eastern Minnesota; ten miles north of Owatonna on #35

Years Represented: 1926

An article in the Med-Ford Exhaust newspaper, March 26, 1926, provided a photo of the girls basketball team. Team members were identified as - Front: Liebold, Shaw, Capt. Krause, Day, Radel. Back: Krause, Eastling, Miss Mitchell, Davis.

The headline read, "M.H.S. Girls Play First Basketball Game - Girls Show Good Spirit as Losers."

The article went on, "The Medford High School girls basketball tem met the Claremont girls in their first game Friday, January 8, at Claremont.

Poor officiating marked the game when the referee failed to call personal fouls occurring during the game. the results were very rough struggles, decidedly different from regular girls basketball. The Medford girls were greatly handicapped due to the fact that the floor was extremely slippery. The floor was very different from our own good floor, being very nearly square. Due to all these handicaps the girls played pretty well for the first girls' team in two years.

Georgia Shaw made all of Medford's points while Wigant and Mosher starred in field goals for Claremont. Clara Wigant made three out of four free throws while Georgia Shaw made one out of five shots."

The team was composed of two forwards, two centers (a running center and a jumping center), and two guards.

The score was Claremont 27; Medford 9.
