The history and highlights from a century of Argyle sports was compiled from the Argyle Banner and Stephen Messenger.
The following items were included:
1902: Bowling alley being built by August Dahl in May. Ladies were forbidden to use the bowling alley at first.
1909 - Argyle high school boys and girls play basketball at Drayton on a dirt floor.
The Marshall County Banner (Argyle), January 10, 1910, reported in an article on "Basket Ball" that the Crookston boys and the Warren girls teams will play in Argyle on January 15th. The article indicated, "The Argyle girls improve with age and will be ready to prove it in any game from now on." Music for the games was provided by the high school orchestra.
The Warren newspaper, Jan. 20, 1910 reported that the Argyle girls hosted Warren. Argyle won 17-7.
On February 17, 1910, the newspaper reported in an article with a headline, "Basket Ball Teams Had Another Downfall." The article reported that the Argyle boys and girls went down to defeat on the previous Saturday evening to McIntosh. The games were officiated by Professor Strong of Crookston and Professor Jedlicka of the Argyle schools. The girls lost 27-13. The newspaper attributed part of the reason for the losses to the size advantage of the McIntosh players. Gate receipts were $56.20.
The history of Argyle Sports, 1910, provided the names of players on a photo identified as the "First AHS Girls Basketball Team, 1910." Olive Stewart, Margaret Sinclair, Dorothy Behlmer, Ethel Keye, Emelia Onstad, Clara LaBine.
1916: Argyle has no basketball; no hall.
1919: City Hall to be heated Mondays and Wednesdays for basketball practice. Athletic Association will furnish the coal.
