northern Minnesota on the Canadian border next to Fort francis on #53

Years Represented: 1924-1927

International Falls is included in the book, Daughters of the Game, on pp 192-193. Agnes King McIntyre provided information about the first team in 1924-1925.

The Daily Journal, International Falls, Friday, February 16, 1979, included an article, "Girls' sports date back to 1920s at Falls High." The staff reporter was Judy Blais.
History was included about the early Falls girls basketball teams, quoting Walt Scheela who played on the boys' team and remembered the years well:

"'I think those girls went 57 games without defeat,' he said. 'The girls played their game right before the varsity game - there was no B Team. Their schedule was limited to 13 or 14 games a year - same as ours. Leah Greengard, Bea Jevne, Dorothy Buckley, Louise Martin, Agnes (King) McIntyre and Marie (McIntyre) Carlson were some of the members of that team.

'Generally, we'd play two games each with Baudette, Littlefork, Blackduck and take a trip to the Range to play Virginia and Mountain Iron.
'Those out-of-town trips in the '20s were a far cry from today's bus trips on paved roads. All seven members of the team would cram into a taxi - one, a venerable Hupmobile. Three would sit in front, three in the jump seat and three in the back.

'When the girls went on trips they went in one car and we went in another,' Sheela said. 'I think the girls' team ended in the late '20s. I understand the State Department decided it wasn't good for girls.'"

A photo of the 1927 team from the 1927 Northern Light yearbook identified the players and reports that the team remained undefeated.
