Brainerd High School
60 miles north of St. Cloud on #371
Years Represented: 1901-1928
The book, Daughters of the Game, contains a full team profile, pp. 123-125. A photo of the 1902 Brainerd team can also be seen on the home page of this website.
Three photos are available to add to this rich history of Brainerd girls basketball teams. The 1924 and 1926 photos include Katherine Nolan who provided an interview included in the book.
The 1932 team is included as it represents the intramural teams that replaced the interscholastic teams in Brainerd and schools across the state. Alta Creger Heikkenen was a young girl in the stands watching her hero, Kay Nolan, play. Then the girls teams were dropped and Alta's only opportunity to play basketball was on an intramural team.
After high school, Alta and Kay both played basketball with an independent city team called the Flying Queens.
Kay Nolan Wetter was interviewed by Janet Karvonen Montgomery at the 1993 MSHSL State Girls Basketball Tournament.
